Fresh from screening at Queens World Film Festival where it was nominated for Best LGBT Feature, The Little House That Could will be having it's Greek Premiere (with Greek Subtitles) at Outview Film Festival at 8 pm on May 20th (held at Greek Film Archive). Patricia Field herself (who is also half Greek) will be in attendance.
The Little House That Could is the new Paris is Burning, specifically centered around Sex & The City’s stylist, Patricia Field, and her gay House of Field gang who have run the NYC nightlife, fashion, and art scene for the past several decades. This 90-minute documentary created by Toronto filmmaker, Mars Roberge (aka “Die J! Mars”), was shot over six years and had its world premiere screening to a sold-out crowd at Frameline37: The San Francisco International Film Festival, followed by screenings at Gaze: 21st Dublin International LGBT Film Festival, Indianapolis LGBT Film Festival and IX Cinema Mostra Aids (São Paulo, Brazil). This year, it has already been selected by Queens World Film Festival (nominated for Best LGBT Feature), OUT Twin Cities Film Festival and Outview Film Festival (Athens, Greece). Outside of the festival circuit, it has played at various independent cinemas in Toronto, Brooklyn and NYC and will be playing at Nakamura Keith Haring Gallery in Japan.
Described as “the Warhol of the fashion world,” Emmy-Award winning stylist, Patricia Field, has done a lot more than Sex and the City. She has spent several decades saving lives and giving hope to lost outsiders who society frowned upon--transsexuals, clubkids, drag queens, gay teenagers, butch-dykes, people who needed to escape from their hometowns because they were never understood. This is the story of a close-knit unconventional family in New York City--the House of Field--who have single-handedly changed music and fashion for the world several times over. Their story is one of courage, hope and dreams. In making this movie, Toronto filmmaker Mars Roberge becomes part of that family, returning to his homeland over a decade later with an uplifting story to tell of the little house that could. Made solely with the help of his friend, Bob Lesser *the one-man crew* and a couple friends here and there from 2006-2012.
When asked why, Mars, explains “This was going to be a blank decade in New York history because nobody was covering it. In the past, you could always read history on Studio 54, CBGBs, The Factory, etc. but there was nothing on this. I didn’t have a choice, this film had to be made.” With that, he leaves nothing out--juicy gossip, rare footage and all the behind the scenes. YOU LIVE IT!
