- Davide & Mirko (Gluck/Bloom)

Clarian:

MIGHTY REAL Presents "The Godfather - Part 1" - A tribute to Frankie Knuckles (Defmix) w/ HECTOR ROMERO (Defmix/NYC) w/ Mighty Real Resident DAVID HARNESS (HARLUM MUZIQ)

As many of you probably know by now, Frankie Knuckles passed from us on Monday, March 31st, 2014. While he was booked on Saturday, May 10th to play Mighty Real, we have decided to pay homage to this musical giant by dedicating this night to his memory. There will be a shrine where people can write and dedicate their thoughts and prayers. Filling in his absence will be long time friend DJ/Producer/Remixer Hector Romero (Defmix/NYC) with Mighty Real resident David Harness who will be laying down the tunes "Knuckles style" all night long.

A portion of the evening's proceeds will go to The Frankie Knuckles Fund which The Elton John AIDS Foundation in collaboration with Judy Weinstein and Defmix Productions has established to support HIV information, testing and treatment.

Following the tragic death of the man known to millions as the “Godfather of House Music,” on March 31, 2014, the Elton John AIDS Foundation has been chosen to establish a Fund in Knuckles’ memory receiving donations for the organization’s work with men at high risk of HIV in Africa as well as African communities in the UK, and African American communities in the U.S.

The man many call the godfather of house, Frankie Knuckles began DJing in New York in the early '70s while still a teenager, years before the disco boom which proved to be the first flowering of modern dance music. Ten years later he was in Chicago, putting together megamixes of old disco hits with new drum-machine percussion for an appreciative audience at crucial clubs like the Music Box and the Warehouse. Another decade on from those first formative steps for house music, Knuckles was back in his New York home, working as a producer and remixer for the biggest pop stars in the business. His career spans more time than any dance producer and without him, the landscape would be immeasurably different.

David Harness is one of the most popular DJ/producers in the San Francisco Bay Area club scene. He has been described as ‘a man who lives, breathes and emanates everything that is beautiful about deep house music and classic garage.’ David is considered a ‘rising star’ within the dance community. To date, David has worked on projects featuring artists such as Mary J. Blige, Luther Vandross, Aretha Franklin, Simply Red, Alicia Keys, Floetry, Donnie McClurkin, India Arie, *NSYNC and Donnell Jones. A collaborative effort with DJ/producers Chris Lum of Abitare Music, Jay J of Moulton Studios, and Charles Spencer of LoveSlap has resulted in several independent releases. David has appeared in articles and interviews in Billboard Magazine, Paper Magazine, Surface, XLR8R, Streetsounds, Sweater, HX, Next, URB, DJ Mag and the SF Bay Guardian. David Harness’ passion, talent and creativity has definitely created a new page in the history of house music.
