- Snow 36°F / 27°F
Recently featured in interviews with Kurt McVey in the virtual pages of Superchief and with Arshia Haq on East LA's Radio Discostan, writer and new author Andrew Demetre makes the final stop of his autumn mini book tour at KGB Bar to share anecdotes and read from his debut non-fiction book, Drinking and Driving in Ürümqi (Strangers Gate Books, Oct 2013), which has been described as "an original . . . a fantastic introduction to an exciting new voice." Utilizing a "riot" of language and a muscular sense of time, place, and character, the book vividly captures its author's precarious, but illuminating junket alongside Uyghur ethnic minority CCP/PLA members into the complex, obfuscated culture of the riot-scarred capital of Xinjiang, China's far Northwestern province. A Q&A and book signing will follow the reading. Books will be on holiday special at $10, signed. Free admission and intrigue.
