With support from the New Museum’s Education Department, Elastic City is pleased to announce the launch of Willing Participant.
All of us are, at some point or another, shaken by tragedies and hardship. It’s time to respond in the best way we can.
Willing Participant whips up urgent poetic responses to crazy shit that happens.
On Sunday April 28, from noon–4 p.m., we’ll dissect and unravel the news of the day. What sticks? What stinks? We’ll find what’s most pressing to participants and what we need to say. We’ll craft that message into a poetic performance and, six days later, on Saturday May 4, we’ll perform our response in the public sphere. Think whispers over bullhorns, but let’s feel the weather.
You’re all invited. Please bring the fire in your belly.
Location for the inaugural meeting on April 28 at noon is the New Museum Theater, basement of 235 Bowery. The meeting spot for the May 4 response will be collectively decided upon in the April 28 meeting.
Ringleaders: Todd Shalom, Niegel Smith and Ben Weber.
Willing Participant is a labor of love and grrrr. An all-volunteer project created by members of non-profit participatory walk organization Elastic City.

Here's the deal:
No cover, just great food, great drinks and good company at cozy, delicious (and affordable) Almond restaurant and bar in the Flatiron. 50% of all the proceeds from your dinner bill or bar tab go toward the June AIDS / LifeCycle Ride -- a 7-day, 545 mile bike ride from SF to LA to rally support for outreach, treatment and research in the fight to end AIDS. A team of NYers -- Claude Hillel, Joseph Huff-Hannon, Justin Muir, and Michael Smith -- are riding and raising $$$ for the cause, so chow down and help us raise some cash so we can bike our butts off and work toward a world without AIDS!!
Here's Almond's yummy menu: www.almondnyc.com
If you plan on coming, please call the restaurant to make a reservation as it looks like we may book the place!!

DJ Justin Dawson will be providing mellow musical support: www.facebook.com/DJJustinDawson
And If you can't make it to dinner on the 28th, not to worry, you can still support the BikeStrong crew and help us get off and get to the finish line by making a direct contribution. No gift is too small! Just click here and support your favorite rider. It's a team effort so we're pooling the funds: http://www.tofighthiv.org/site/TR/AIDSLIFECYCLE12/ AIDSLifeCycleCenter?pg=team &fr_id=1550&team_id=10351
