KIOSK LEND A HAND

When we began working on this small collection of 11 objects, KIOSK had just turned seven. After seven years of finding objects, it was time to review and reflect on what people need, and more importantly, need from us.  Soon after, we were told 95 Spring Street had been sold (they never asked us for our offer!) and the building, our location, will be torn down and replaced by a "jewel box" structure, meaning an all-glass-retail something. Don’t feel too beat down - after all, every 20th new construction in this city is lucky enough to get dressed by a gifted and tasteful architect, and this could very well be the one! As you can imagine, the new place will have no room for us but we have been told to relax for the rest of this year. A virtual handshake if you will, let’s hope! Anyhow, we sweated a lot and thought, "What are we going to do?" and, "What do people need, what do we need?" We have no firm answer to those questions right now. But looking around, and thinking of all the people we have met over the years, we understood, now more than ever, we all for certain need a HAND. So we stopped what we were doing. We started thinking and we are still thinking. But most importantly, we are making a real effort to start giving. We put down our routine and we started to help, and I don't mean charity work or special projects, I mean in our every moment. And over time we started feeling just all around better and happier; more filled with desire, excitement and energy. We started listening more and talking to strangers. We stopped staring at our computers and walking the same paths. We started advising and consulting. We put down our day-to-day. We ignored all of our immediate needs. We started, more than ever… LENDING A HAND. In some unknown way, we find it is working. We hope these 11 objects help you LEND A HAND. We hope today you will LEND A HAND to your fellow man.
