Call for Entries: New York New Design - 2014 Subway Show

New York New Design solicits works of all scales and types – small, large, commercial, residential, public, private, interiors, historic preservation, engineering, landscape, and urban design – presenting the scope and quality of work being done by AIA New York Chapter members both at home and abroad. In addition to commissioned and built projects, we accept unbuilt competition entries, theoretical projects, and design research. This highly-visible exhibition – to be located in the two southern corridors of the West 4th Street subway station – will offer a snapshot of current practice and celebrate the Chapter’s diverse membership. AIA New York Chapter members are invited to participate by submitting up to ten (10) projects for display in the subway station for the month of October. New York New Design will be promoted as part of Archtober, a month-long festival of architectural activities, programs, and exhibitions in New York City, organized by the Center for Architecture in collaboration with other institutions including the Museum of Modern Art, the Municipal Art Society of New York, Socrates Sculpture Park, and many others. ----- Eligible Projects Submitted projects may be located anywhere around the world. In addition to commissioned projects in design, under construction, or recently completed, we are accepting un-built competition entries, theoretical projects, and design research. All constructed projects must have been completed after January 1, 2009. The work may be a project of any size and style. Who Can Enter? Entrant must be a member of the AIA New York Chapter. Eligible member categories include: Architect Member, Associate Member, International Associate Member, and Allied Member (Center Professional, Corresponding, Corporate and Student Members). Work submitted by Allied members must be designed by an Architect, Associate, or International Associate member. Work submitted by Associate and International Associate Members must credit the Architect of Record where applicable. Join and Enter! Current non-members may participate if they concurrently join the AIA New York Chapter. Membership is pro-rated and currently 50% off the yearly fee. You can join as an Architect Member, Associate Member, International Associate Member, and Allied Member. Allied and International Associate Members need not reside in Manhattan. Individuals who are not yet members and have not been members before may select the appropriate "Join" category and pay their member dues at the same time that they are registering for the program. Register for New York New Design by 5:00 PM (EST) on Wednesday, July, 16 2014. However, in order for the membership to be activated, the appropriate membership forms must also be completed by 5:00 PM, Friday, July 18th , 2014. After you have registered for New York New Design, visitwww.aiany.org/membership to download the form for your category or contactmembership@aiany.org with your transaction number to receive the form by email. Reinstating and reactivating members must contact AIA directly to renew their membership. For more information on membership, please visit our website at www.aiany.org/membership Registration Forms and Fees Entrants must register for the exhibition through our online service. Each submission requires a registration fee per image, which must be paid online. Standard horizontal format and size is $400. Double-wide or double-high formats and sizes are available for discounted price of $600. Max-out images are available for $1000. All payments are final and no refunds will be granted. Firms may submit up to 10 projects. All project submissions, provided they meet the criteria for submission and follow the below Submission Requirements, are guaranteed a spot in the West 4th Street subway station. FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS Can the same project be submitted multiple times? For example, the architect submits and the interior designer submits. Yes – but we suggest using different images of the project. Can a firm submit multiple projects? Yes, firms can submit up to ten projects. The $400, $600, or $1000 registration fee needs to be paid for each project. Will refunds be issued if I decide not to participate after registering? No refunds will be issued. Is there a release that the owners/clients will need to fill out for their projects to be displayed? A release from owner/clients is not required by the AIA New York Chapter. However, submitters may want or need a sign off from owners/clients for their own records. By completing the Image Permission and Project Team Form, the submitter agrees that they have obtained all necessary permissions from the submitted project’s design lead and owners/client to participate in the exhibition. Are temporary projects eligible? Yes, according to the above mentioned requirements. Are theoretical projects eligible? Yes, including competition entries and design research. You say to submit a single image. Does this mean I can put two or more drawings or photos together and call it a “single image”? No. By “single image” we mean one (1) photograph or image per project, with no additional text or formatting. Composed project boards will not be accepted.
