July 26 – 28, 2013

We are proud to present “Future Folk”, a two-part group exhibition in Brooklyn featuring bold arrangements in painting, collage and installation from over twenty artists.
Art is passed down. It evolves over time, with new ideas added to already established concepts and forms. The artists in “Future Folk” contribute to this tradition by creating an abstract narrative that nods to the past and alludes to the future.
The work presented is both raw and controlled. Herein lies the handmade, the felt mark, the human element. Some work is meandering and loose, suggesting a primitive language, while others are aggressively designed and precise, calculated. Grand gestures and minute details are combined with a Photoshop-driven sensibility. All artists are investigating a central figure or object – a totem. Are these totems a signifier of physical structures or objects? Or possibly a kind of artifact? These artists are joined by their authentic love of their “subjects” and a desire to share their cultural identity, whether real or imagined.
Be on the lookout for "Future Folk: Part II"...
