Making Conversations
The New School
Greenwich Village / West Village 66 West 12th Street, New York
Opening from
On view
The works presented in this exhibition celebrate the diversity of media, themes, and approaches that make up the First Year at Parsons The New School for Design.
The exploratory and cross-disciplinary learning introduced in the first year curriculum aim to merge art and design with the context of the larger world.
Projects blend digital and manual making skills, conceptual thinking, tangible objects, systems and theory to simultaneously build a solid foundation and challenge that same foundation.
The conversations that begin in the first year ripple out over time, so we have asked a group of current second year students to share their work in this exhibition.
Last Spring these same students were selected, while still freshen, to be in the Parsons Festival exhibition Making Meaning.
This is an opportunity to see their work again and to look at their evolution as students,
designers,
and scholars and to make connections to their first year peers.

Brooklyn for Sale: The Price of Gentrification
A Community Town Hall
BRIC Rest Of Brooklyn 647 Fulton Street At Rockwell Place, Brooklyn
Join Brooklyn Independent Media for a live broadcast of their next town hall.
In Brooklyn for Sale: The Price of Gentrification,
we explore the emotions,
politics,
history,
and future of this complex process defining the Brooklyn experience.
It’s one of the foremost questions confronting Brooklyn today:
Where do market forces and policy need to meet so that we can preserve the integrity of our diverse borough?
Believing that every voice counts,
BRIC seeks to include as many perspectives as possible on the issue:
the homeowner whose property is suddenly worth millions;
he renter who’s afraid he’ll be priced out
—
and forget being able to buy;
the longtime resident being pushed out of her neighborhood;
the many people who feel the racial and class tensions troubling the place we call home.
