WHITE BOX is pleased to kick off its third week of BEACH BOX with the group exhibition,ENDLESS SUMMER. Referencing the seminal 60's surfer film, ENDLESS SUMMER alludes to the notion that if one had enough time and money, it would be possible to follow the summer around the world, making it endless. The naïve and escapist longing of the 60's surfer culture reflects the idea of never facing an end to certain moments or periods within our lives - a feeling with which we can all identify.
Comprised of sun, sound, sunburns, vibrant colors, things hidden in the sand as well as shapes and objects by the sea, the works in this group exhibition are meant to trigger the ideas of summer and the desire for it to never end. On the other hand, the question arises: does your summer have to end or have you simply grown weary of those perfect days at the beach? Perhaps as a result from this, we look forward to the Labor Day holiday, which in the US symbolizes the end of summer and the coming of something new.
