Romare Bearden (September 2, 1911 – March 12, 1988) was an African-American artist and writer. He experimented with many different mediums and artistic styles. He is best known for his richly textured collages that focused on unity and cooperation within the African American community. A fine example from this period is included in the NAC’s Permanent Collection.
