The Con Artist Collective is getting ready for America's most famous arts and culture bacchanal, Miami Art Basel 2014. We're joining forces with Brooklyn's Create Collect to produce "Festina Lente", our five day festival of art and performance. This marks Con Artist's second annual foray into the tropics in the name of Art Basel. We're looking to double the success of last year with a private gallery space in the heart of Wynwood and a line up of cocktail parties, DJs, movie screenings, and a collaborative mural that will grow throughout the event with contributions by artists and guests.

What was life like for Jews coming of age in Poland during the interwar years? In the 1930s, scholars at the YIVO Institute set out to study Jewish life in Poland through an innovative approach—holding a series of autobiography contests for Jewish youth. Over 600 hundred Jewish adolescents responded from across the social spectrum: religious and secular, rich and poor, from large cities and small towns. In this talk, Jeffrey Shandler, Professor and Chair of Jewish Studies at Rutgers University, explores the insights that the resulting stories provide into the rich, complex lives of this singular generation. During the program, actors will read excerpts from several of the autobiographies.

Co-presented by YIVO Institute for Jewish Research.
