Invitation to Fashionspeak Fridays: The History of Halloween

Friday, October 24, 2014, 7:00pm

Halloween has evolved from the Celtic celebrations of 2,000 years ago to become today the fastest-growing holiday in the country.

Join us for an insightful evening celebrating the history and literature of All Hallows Eve with the nation’s foremost Halloween authority Lesley Bannatyne and learn how to win the costume contest from Mashable’s Christine Erickson with her ultra-creative do-it-yourself costume cues!

Lesley Bannatyne is the author of five books on the history, literature, and contemporary celebration of Halloween. She has been featured on the History Channel and in Time Magazine, Slate, National Geographic, and contributed the Halloween article to World Book Encyclopedia. From 2007 to 2009, she and several compatriots held the Guinness World Record for Largest Halloween Gathering.

Christine Erickson is the List Editor at Mashable, where she helps manage an editorial team that covers everything from web culture and viral news to DIY and lifestyle. She joined Mashable as a features intern in 2011. A Virginia transplant, she now lives in Brooklyn and has never worn a store-bought Halloween costume in her life.

Halloween Style is highly encouraged!

Books will be available for purchase.
