Renata Scotto is an internationally lauded soprano, opera director and costume designer. Recognized for her sense of style, musicality, and as a legendary singer-actress, Scotto is considered one of the preeminent vocal artists of her generation. Since retiring as a singer in 2002, she has turned successfully to stage directing and designing. In conversation, Ms. Scotto will discuss a career lived on the great stages of the world as well as her transition to directing and her eye for design. Always supportive of young singers, Renata Scotto holds academic posts at the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia in Rome and the Juilliard School here in New York. Two wonderful young artists—coached by Ms. Scotto as part of the Metropolitan Opera’s famed Lindemann Program—join the evening to offer arias and demonstrate the teaching legacy of our guest of honor.
